BANGKOK, 5 September 2019(NNT) - The Fiscal Policy Office (FPO) has decided to adopt a more proactive strategy to drive domestic tourism and will be approaching operators to join its “Taste, Shop, Use” program, confirming that the stimulus program wasn’t launched to collect information for the Revenue Department’s database.

The FPO Director-General, Lawaron Saengsanit, said today that about 3,300 businesses have so far applied to join the “Taste, Shop, Use" program, with registration still open until September 20, 2019.

The Ministry of Commerce is targeting a total 40,000 participating businesses in the program divided into 14,000 commercially licensed restaurants, 10,000 small sized restaurants, 6,000 OTOP and community enterprise entities and 10,000 hotels and homestays. The FPO has decided to take a more proactive approach to reaching the targeted numbers and has dispatched agents to meet with potential participants.

The office is to evaluate whether it needs to extend the registration period of the program, due to conclude in two weeks, and is also considering expanding the list of eligible products and services to better meet tourist demands.

Mr. Lawaron insisted that the program was not designed to acquire information on the businesses for the Revenue Department’s database, stating it is aimed at stimulating the economy and promoting e-payments.

I have stopped going on short trips away from Pattaya because of the TM30 rules. Isn't it time someone realized that the farangs living here are not going on short trips because of the red tape of the TM30.
