Yes, good for them not folding, pointless working to mainly pay the landlords

Had a few breakfasts in there if I was doing any shopping over the "darkside", Prime, Siambury's, Smokey Mountain, mainly on the last day on my way back home up country.

Was always as good as their other branches.

He may say its because of rent but there was hardly ever any customers in there. I used to go in when it first opened but to be honest, you can get better quality and quanity for the same-ish price in several other places on the Darkside. So my mates and I stopped going there.

The same I think as the "original" Cheap Charlie's that used to be in Bangkok....close to Sukhumvit(?).

New owners of the whole building block I guess wanted them out for development, hence raised the rent beyond a profitable level (for CC).

That was a great outdoor bar with atmosphere.

Hence the "Greedy Landlords" comment?

Is this the same people that ran Charlie Hotel ? now Charlie Place .......top of soi Diana?

From memory....1997....a Chinese couple ran the show.

Started off with no more than an illegal bar, "Charlie Bar", on Beach Road, about halfway down.

Anyone know?

I drive/drove past every day 6.30/7.00 pm.

Never seen a customer; maybe they were all in the toilet doing a #2.

Never been. Is it a place for cheap chucks or is Charlie a cheap guy?

certainly not the case on soi buahkow location which seems to do quite well.....of course lot more foot traffice on buahkow and no doubt higher rent....i suspect they would do better to open another location somewhere nearer to main tourist centers than on dark side and of course only the owners know what rent can likely work for them to make a profit...maybe down near soi 7 or 8 as sailor bar seems to do ok and has been there forever....but maybe sailor owns their location?

Pretty stupid to get a 3 year lease.

Not really, not if there isn't enough customers

Darkside doomed for entertainment and good eating, too many lazy hi so owners n staff, boring as, no surprises! Both other CC sites work well,Pattaya n jomtiem staff r good tho.

I don't go there much and not that cheap. Seems like a bunch of guys who want to hang out with other foreign guys and not the food. It's also strange that they open so many branches, felt like a tourist eatery.

To be enforceable any lease longer than 3 years must be registered at the land office.

A lot of landlords refuse to do this as they fear possible tax implications. So 3 years is the max they will grant.

Quite odd, because a lot of the patrons of the Soi Buakhow location are local expats. So I'd have expected a Darkside outlet to succeed too.

As for what CC is, it's a cheap restaurant serving Western (mainly UK) food. Portions small but adequate, but good VFM. I never used to like it, but this year ventured in and (obviously!) tried the Thai food - Pad Thai actually. Not at all bad!

Kid size portions, I'd have to eat when i got home. He needs bigger portions, change the menu (specials have been the same for years), price up to pay for it

Well, there is always Cafe Pitini.....O-Wait.....

True...but if you just want a snack, Thai food in CC is reasonable , and as I said, VFM.

The Western food doesn't look that appetising to me - IF I wanted that I'd go to Hungry Hippo - giant portions!

And yes, @redwood1 Pitini is apparently now an ex-café.

Unfortunately they’re closed now due to rent increases.

One of my favorites for breakfast and coffee.

It's ok if you're eating falang food and the girlfriend can eat thai food but elsewhere in a thai restaurant much cheaper, about half price

Another restaurant claiming it's the rent increase, but in reality didn't have the customers

Thailand need to keep in mind that foreigners (and mainly our money) come to Thailand to get top quality and rock bottom low prices. Because if not, there are many other countries with quality and cheap cost of living all over southern Europe or even in Asia.

Is that an American talking? UK portions are probably US kid's portions.

True - the markets come to mind.

No I visited CC because i was with a mate who only eats farang food - I usually don't.

And how exactly do you know this....or is it just speculation?
