Where do Chiang Mai expats go to renew their visas?

Where do Chiang Mai expats go to renew their visas?

Hi,

I used to live in Hua Hin and Isaan previously. While there I usually renewed my visas in Vientiane or Savannakhet.

I recently moved to Chiang Mai so I'm not entirely familiar with best practices here.

Do most Chiang Mai expats renew their visas in Vientiane?

Or is it also possible to go to Myanmar somewhere and conveniently renew the visa there?

I would consider going to Myanmar if I could but I have never renewed my visa there.

Please advise about best practice as a new Chiang Mai resident.

What type of visa are wanting to apply for.

Vientiane and Savannakhet are still the still a goo choice from Chiang Mai.

Or by air to Malaysia or Yangon Myanmar is also an option.

Yangon (Myanmar) has historically been a good consulate to use. You need an eVisa in advance, and flying is much easier than overland. To enter Thailand by land involves an overnight VIP bus from Yangon to Myawaddy (across the border from Maesot) then about a 12 hours bus journey from Maesot to Chiang Mai. There is a domestic airport close to the border, but flights are only to/from Bangkok.
