Officials provide assistance to flood victims

BANGKOK (NNT) -Many provinces are still hit by floods, as local authorities continue to respond and assist communities in areas affected.

The Energy Minister, Sontirat Sontijirawong, accompanied a group of executive members of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and PTT to the northeastern province of Roi Et recently, and distributed 2,250 survival kits to villagers who have been affected by floods caused by tropical storm Podul since the beginning of September.

At a Buddhist temple in Selaphum district, Mr. Sontirat said the visit will enable officials to listen to the people’s problems and needs. The information will be forwarded to all related units, so that they can alleviate the plight of those affected as soon as possible.

As for the current flood situation in Selaphum district, water from local rivers has overflowed into riverside communities. Although the water level has now receded, some areas remain impassable to small vehicles. The Royal Irrigation Department has dispatched trucks to help transport villagers, medical personnel and volunteers marooned in flood-hit areas.

In Ubon Ratchathani’s Det Udom district, floods have inundated some 175 houses and schools. The province has set up royally-bestowed mobile kitchens and temporary shelters for flood victims in many areas.

The Prime Minister and Defense Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, is to visit Yasothon and Ubon Ratchathani provinces tomorrow. The Prime Minister earlier instructed officials to assist those affected, provide machines and flat-bottom boats and set up temporary shelters and royally-bestowed mobile kitchens. He had instructed the officials to prepare measures to make housing and career programs available after the situation is restored. He said the government will continue to address the flood situation in a comprehensive manner.

Is he thinking of all Thailand or just the affluent parts of Bangkok?

This is just another BS thread about officials getting in on the photo ops.

As many know Banphai was 1 of the most seriously affected places, where is/was government help?

Almost all help was provided by individuals/ private companies/ local temples.

No sight of any government help.

No, just the effluent parts of the flooded areas.

The flood is your fault, the least you can do is help even if you use this misfortune for advertising purposes!

That should make a big difference. Just like he rushed up to Chiang Mai and fixed the smog and smoke within one week.

How the people of Thailand would get on without him I can't imagine.

I live in a seriously flooded part of Banphai.

Saw the flashing lights and big Lexus van driving in to local hotel 3 days after flood.    Must of missed them when they toured my area.

As for wading through the water, help came from Korat, Chaiyaphum with many thanks by all.

The very sad part is that when there have been distribution points, as also happened outside my house, amoungst early arrivals many individuals came in and out of the distribution points 2,3,4 times, each time with an empty bag, even a lady business woman who had people working for her taking most of the clothes.

This was a 5 tonne truck load of dried foods, rice, toothpaste, toilet rolls etc. which ran out in a very short period with many people who arrived later going without anything.

We had been flood victims a few years ago and I'll never ever forget that.

We lived in a house of an older woman we knew for a couple of years together with other flood victims.

We helped each other which was great and could only get to our houses via boat. The Army was very helpful and i also helped to bring food and water to those who were trapped in their houses.

Fortunately, my family back home then sent me some cash and I could buy some new furniture. A flood is one of the worst things that can happen to a human being. It's already stressful to move to another place.

"Do you think next year we will have proper flood control?"

"Sorry, it's going to be at least five more years. I am still saving up for my villa in Italy."

But the money that was for the flood victims did find its way into the wrong pockets. As usual.

It would be way more believable if the "Isaanjeros" would stand on a yellow submarine.

The Three Isaan Amigos.

I see now that the floods have receded Prayute will come to Yasothon and everything will be fine after the power come on after a six day blackout and road access cut off for the same time.Maybe they should install a few culverts under the roads so the water doesn't have to go over the roads.I've setout hundreds and hundreds of culverts it's not that hard.I don't think Prayut should go to Ubon as I've heard there are people there who want to punch him in the mouth.

As I said before: it happens every year and it going on since the dawn of time!

By now, one should think, some clever person would have come up with a plan to minimize the effects or effectively distribute help or something!

But that - of course- would mean, that the powers that be, could not play themselves of as the great, god sent saviors that they are and get their hands on the money and goods, that are not for them!

But at least, the flood-victims get a nice picture, to hang in every room!

Any help for expats in Isaan who finance the flooded farms?  Nah, just thought I would ask...

"Mr. Sontirat said the visit will enable officials to listen to the people’s problems and needs. The information will be forwarded to all related units, so that they can alleviate the plight of those affected as soon as possible."

Is this news because it is something out of the ordinary? Listening to his constituents' problems and helping to solve them is his job. Why is he making such a big deal about doing what he is paid to do? One might start to think that he is in government service for some other reason.

The hi-vis wait bands are interesting. Are they so the important ones can be lifted from any sudden increase in flood level? The extra one the ensure the boss gets special lifting treatment?

A lot of thai news about the flood. But TVF only report like this one.

In the real news.. this woman house flood. She on the second floor, can not get out. So she call the emergency help number.

They tell her they can not help. Because everyone to busy prepare for Prayut come to visit.

This is help the people? Everybody sit the plastic chair, listen to Prayut?

Should have got the Dutch involved to sort out Thailand's flooding problem once and for all. Otherwise it will come back every year. They have a centuries'-long history of successful water management eg the Zuiderzee Works.
There was also the Dutch engineer Cornelius Vermuyden who introduced Dutch land reclamation methods to England in the 17th century. Vermuyden was commissioned by the English Crown to drain Hatfield Chase in the Isle of Axholme, Lincolnshire and directed major projects to drain The Fens of East Anglia.
Vermuyden was knighted by the UK crown in 1629 for his work and became an English citizen in 1633.

How messed up is that to leave an older woman trapped in a house because people are too busy preparing Pinocchio's arrival? Thanks for your report, one more reason to dislike the man who brought this country back to to the 19th century.

Is there anything that he's achieved? Even Thaksin did a lot more for the people. I've just seen that it's in Ubon. I'll go and rescue her........

As the cheap Chinese rubber rings a gift from the locals turn out to be anchors ????
