Sihanoukville Airport Expansion Gets Nod

Featured Replies

Cambodia's aviation authority has approved the master plan for a new terminal at Sihanoukville airport that will expand its passenger capacity to 10 million.

The expansion will be carried out in several phases, according to the approved blueprint. Phase 1 will begin early next year and will expand the airport's capacity to 3.6 million passengers. The next phase will begin in 2022.

The airport's runway is already getting an upgrade. Construction work is now underway to expand it to 3,300 metres from the current 2,500. The expansion, due to be completed by 2020, will allow the airport to accommodate long-haul aircraft.

Chinese military planes by any chance??

I went there several years ago after reading a fiction? Book by Peter Jaggs.

Ir was pretty much like the book. Very laid back and cheap. I stayed at a casino hotel and paid about $30usd per night. That was very high at that time. Only 2 or 3 casinos and very primative at that. Big open beaches, lots of friendly people. No commercial air service. 4 hour van from PP. Wanted to see the wildlife preserve and the ranger gave me a private boat tour. Also invited me to dinner with his family. Great place at that time!

Sadly that is all gone now!
