BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand is aiming to attract more investment from Japanese investors through a roadshow, led by the Minister of Industry, which emphasizes the effects from trade wars and Thailand’s strategic location and preparedness to support foreign investment.

The Minister of Industry Suriya Juangroongruangkit today met with the Governor of Japan’s Toyama Prefecture, Takakazu Ishii, to discuss the government’s foreign investment promotion policy and guidelines on industrial cooperation and bilateral investment promotion.

The Industry Minister then attended a seminar on investment in Thailand, participated in by some 100 delegates from Japanese companies.

He delivered remarks that Japan is the country with highest investment promotion requests, with about 6,000 Japanese businesses now operating in Thailand, most of which are in electronic appliances, parts and medical equipment manufacturing, in compliance with the Thailand 4.0 initiative.

These investments also help promote investments in 10 S-Curve industries, as well as education and human resources development.

He encouraged Japanese companies, affected by the ongoing trade war, to invest in Thailand, which is suitable for Japanese investment through its Eastern Economic Corridor area and the country’s strategic location. The government has also issued new investment promotion measures to meet investor needs.

There are currently 65 Japanese companies from Toyama Prefecture operating in Thailand, mostly in the electronics industry. The Ministry of Industry aims to raise this to 100 companies in 2 years.

The Japanese HATE  your  stupid TM30

I don't think the Japanese will be overly fooled by all the lies and deceit and misrepresentations from Thai officialdom.

It's difficult to think of two peoples (nations) that are more culturally different: the Japanese and the Thais!

Yeah thats sure stopped investment already. Not a Japanese in sight!

Chances are slim for that to happen. But, hey, we'll see how this story unfolds. It is less likely that Japanese companies will be interested in investing in Thailand, but who knows. If they do decide to expand their business they can either acquire some of the existing companies and back themselves up with investment bank services to help them deal with all the possible troubles investing into Thai companies ( this would be the process https://dealroom.net/blog/private-equity-investment-vs-investment-banking ) or simply build their own factories, bringing new jobs and opportunities, which sounds unreal to me.

Why would they invest in a country run by exmilitary goons who balloon the government deficit by buying 100 billion Baht military equipment not needed. Such irresponsibility does not impress investors. Oh yes and the TM30 will thrill the Japanese expats who have to come to or live in Thailand to manage their assets.

Japan is the biggest foreign investor in Thailand.

That said, the Japanese are lamenting the lack of skilled labour in Thailand as well as Thailand's recent closeness to China.

If you want their money you have to "Lure" them.

Best thing Japan could send to Thailand would be Godzilla !
