The Department of Energy Business (DoEB) today (September 27) reported a 1.5 per cent increase in total fuel usage for the first 8 months (January to August) year-on-year.

In the period, Thailand consumed 38,551 million litres of ready-to-use fuel, or 158.6 million litres per day, amounting to 87.2 per cent of annual domestic production. It represented a rise of 2.2 million litres from the same period last year.

The department also reported consumption increases of 3.8 per cent and 1.4 per cent for benzene and diesel, citing economic expansion and uptick of the tourism industry.

Crude imports stood at 33,372 million litres or Bt477 billion in value, down 5 per cent in volume and 12.3 in value from the first eight months of 2018.

As for market share, PTT Oil and Retail Business Pcl led the pack with 36.1 per cent, followed by Esso (10.9 per cent), Bangchak (10.8 per cent), Shell (8.8 per cent) and Chevron (6.2 per cent), with the balance taken up by smaller retailers.
