NEW YORK (MFA) - H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand met with Mr. Antonio Guterres, United Nations Secretary-General at the United Nations Headquarters, New York. The Thai Foreign Minister, H.E. Don Pramudwinai, also attended the meeting.

The Prime Minister and the UN Secretary-General exchanged views on various issues of global significance which are today’s challenges, including climate change, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UN peacekeeping operations.

The Prime Minister expressed Thailand’s readiness to support the works of the United Nations and the UN reform, initiated by the UN Secretary-General, to make the organization more effective, more efficient and more responsive to current global challenges.

The UN Secretary-General praised Thailand for her UN-related roles, particularly in the work on sustainable development guided by the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP), the knowledge and experience Thailand could share with other countries. He looks forward for Thailand’s membership to the UN Economic and Social Council which will begin in 2020.

The Prime Minister, furthermore, extended an invitation to the UN Secretary-General to attend the ASEAN-UN Summit in November in Bangkok.

Nauseating as normal. Shows clearly that the UN either don't know (unlikely) or don't care (highly likely) about how certain leaders assume and maintain their powers.

It isn't right to give a person like Prayuth recognition like this as it legitimizes his misrule and authoritarian approaches.

Sad and pathetic to see ????

Just handshakes and Photo Ops how many publicly congratulated him for winning the election?

Yes, and the UN is sending a letter to Thanathorn to tell him how angry they are at him for causing misunderstanding amongst Thai people.

Just another low for the talking shop.

PR for public image that will not change anyone's opinion to a positive seeing him honest.. Now if he loves the US so much and makes a 10 year cheap maybe USD 1000 visa to allow USA expats married to Thai or USA expat family members of Thai or USA expats having Thai children or USA expats who retire here without having the 90 day or TM feel like a criminal follow ups, then I might change my opinion of him and his crew. So what are the chances of that?

Probably invited the Secretary General to visit the "world class" resort of Pattaya (ugh!!!)

What a load of disgusting B.S.

I could just as easily write the following - and it would have as much truth as what is implied by this article:

'The revered and world-esteemed Thai P.M. met with the head of the U.N., who was eager to learn from the Thai statesman how to implement true democracy in a world that is failing its people and how to solve all the problems besetting the earth. The U.N. head was stunned by the encyclopaedic knowledge and wisdom of the Thai P.M. and promised to share that wisdom with every country around the world. The Thai P.M. has now been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, a Nobel Prize for Physics, a Nobel Prize for Chemistry, a Nobel Prize for International Literature, and a Nobel Prize for Greatest Winner of All Nobel Prizes!'
