The video of a baby elephant taking a nap in a national park has won the hearts of thousands of netizens.

The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation uploaded on its Facebook page a short video clip that showed a baby elephant taking a nap on the lap of its caretaker.

Within eight hours of the video being uploaded, it had drawn about 70,000 page views with many commenting on the “cute” baby.

With the notable exception of myself, most baby mammals are cute and especially so when asleep.  Perhaps the thousands of netizens should give their hearts to asking why it is necessary for the baby to have a human caretaker in the first place?

Won't be happy in captivity. Sad picture, really.

My cat sleeping on me is quite heavy, I hate to think what a baby elephant would be like.

I would think some of you have ex wives that are almost that heavy ... so you should know.

Well there's three minutes of my life wasted.

It would be nicer if the babbie had its mum and was free in some beautiful jungle without fear of human harm. It's still a cute heart touching video for the reason that despite being captured and abused these animals still allow us to be near them. Makes me feel humble
