BANGKOK (NNT) - The Chim Shop Chai - Eat Shop Spend campaign will be ending in November. The government has planned however, to continue stimulating the economy by introducing year-end tourism campaigns for local residents and international visitors, pending approval from the Cabinet.

Already, two campaigns have been introduced to encourage domestic travel by Thai people, namely 100-baht nationwide tourism packages. 40,000 tourism packages will be offered at 100 baht each to 10,000 persons daily over 4 days on the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s website. Online registration is required, where users will obtain a promo code which is required to purchase eligible packages from participating airlines, hotels, and shops at 100 baht each. The campaign targets Gen X, Gen Y, and members of the community with medium purchasing power.

The Minister of Tourism and Sports, has revealed that responsible agencies are working on the details of this campaign before putting the website online, starting on 11th November.

"For the progress, we are waiting for all the details to be finalized, and will put them up on the TAT’s website. We’ll open first registration round for the first 10,000 users on 11 November, then for the next 10,000 users in November, and the third round for another 10,000 on 12 December, and the final 10,000 also in December. We will provide the offers for a total of 40,000 accounts in total."

Another campaign is the shocking price discount available for weekday travel, offering up to 70% discounts on air tickets, hotel stays, shopping, food, museums, and other tourism packages on Mondays to Thursdays only, starting in November and continuing until 31st December. This campaign targets the population with higher purchasing power.

Most Thai's I know with spending power have realized there is a big wide world outside of Thailand,

That where they are spending their money.

The only thing that Thai domestic tourism will stimulate is coffin sales

Yes, the builders, labourers and manual workers from all over the country are desperately waiting to pack their belongings in their Fortuner, drive to the beach and enjoy the low prices and cheap accommodation awaiting them. Will the airlines allow them to take their shovels for playing in the sand and will the Phuket stores be outfitting them with silk suits and shirts?

to encourage domestic travel by Thai people,

This only benefits Hi-So's.  Most Thai people have to wait for a long weekend  so they can clutter up the roads and turn a five hour journey into a twelve hour one.

This State propaganda machine pumps out so much here.

One wonders what their financial relationship is that allows them to fill this site with increasing propaganda.

They seem to be following the Chinese model as closely as they can.

Buying up media (or maybe just ordering a percentage of stores published) to influence western (and local) opinion.

Influence Campaign

The TV readership should be made aware.
