CP to sign airport train contract on Thursday

Charoen Pokphand Holdings (CPH) will sign the contract for the high-speed train project at Government House on Thursday (October 24), in the presence of the prime minister.

 

The project will see the linkup of three international airports: Suvarnabhumi, Don Muang and U-tapao.

 

Secretary-general of the EEC Policy Committee Kanit Saengsuphan said today (October 21) that the signing between State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and CP Consortium, led by bid winner Charoen Pokphand Holdings (CPH), will take place at 1pm at Si Fah Room, Santi Maitree Building, Government House.

 

This project has a joint-investment value of Bt220 billion and is a part of the government's mega development plan in the Eastern Economic Corridor.

I think I will just keep taking the bus from Pattaya to Bangkok for 100 baht...

I don't understand the need for this.

How many people require to travel between Don Muang & Suvarnabhumi?

 

Bangkok requires a new airport not a train link between 2 over crowded airports.

All about nice fat contracts from the Junta to HISO business people. So when Junta leave government they get a new highly paid job called Lobbyist.

They are already building the new terminal at suvarnabhumi.

Most of the budget airlines fly from don mueang, but international are through suvarnabhumi. There has been enormous criticism that there is no connecting service. Many people will find that it helps. Yes  It would be useful to know the numbers Its very expensive for the tunnels necessary, but will be worth it in the long term IMHO.

That new terminal is 10 yrs too late and will be over capacity by the time it's open.

So another new terminal or airport will be required for the future.

 

The lack of vision & planning is a common theme here.

 

 

 

This contract could easily end in tears just like Hopewell.

Difficult to understand how CP Group would sign up to a contract where the SRT announced last year what the fare prices would be. Presumably the CP Group are stuck with this public announcement even though it might impact on their income and profitability and return on investment.

First things first in the minds of SRT incompetents....... No. 1 priority........"let's set the ticket price".

Miraculously the SRT calculated HS fare prices per person of less than 330 baht for the longest leg.

a. Without any having partner or contract

b. Without any money (100 billion baht debt) or knowing the bidding price 

c. Without knowing the establishment/purchase costs of

      1. HS Trains

      2. HS Rail tracks

      3. HS Rail stations

      4. HS Infrastructure 

d. Without having any knowledge of running costs of HS trains in Thailand

e. Without having any idea of how many potential passengers there might be

f. Without having acquired all the land for the track (still haven't)

 

The SRT is the ground people transportation version of Thai Airways in almost every conceivable management way. They are like twins competing to see which one can lose the most money. The CP Group will need a miracle on their side.

 

Another step towards the total monopoly of a company that already has a monopoly in other branches!

The pressure strategy worked well
