I have a 1 year multiple entry non-imm b visa and need to do a visa run. I'm planning to drive to the Aranyapathet and Poipet border (from Pattaya).

Can anyone recommend a decent hotel near the border?

I was thinking of staying at the Holiday Palace Poipet but am having trouble getting any information on the place. Also if I'm driving would I have to leave my car at the border?

Any info appreciated.

Why do you want to spend the night in Cambodia, especially, just over the border. You could just enter and turn around to get a new stamp on your visa.

I also don't recommend you do the trip by yourself, especially if it is your first time. Rather go with a organised visa run service. I recommend you use www.thaivisaservice.com but I'm not sure if they go from Pattaya. You could always contact the owner, he is very friendly and would be able to give you some advice.

Holiday Palace

Why not give them a ring, should be able to speak English. It's in that sort of no mans land between Thailand and Cambodia so maybe you can park your car there, be interested in what you find out.

As you drive the last few miles to Poipet there are some bungalow, resort type hotels on the Thai side that don't look too bad from the outside. Unless you want to gamble then the Thai side would be where most people would prefer to spend a night.

Apparently you can park your car in a secure area on the Thai side of the border for a small fee. To access the holiday palace website (holiday-palace.com) it prompts you to download a file with no description which I am wary of doing, but perhaps I'm being over cautious. Am currently waiting on a call back from reception to find out rates etc.

Think its a hassle to take the car through, more paperwork / fees etc. Just want to break the journey up as I'm in no rush and want to miss the border queues. Probably go tomorrow so will update with the facts.

I guess the more pleasant visa runs are those undertaken by plane to Singapore etc ??..

Last time I went the parking was free in a car park the Thai side of the customs vehicle inspection. 2 little street urchins were the only ones who asked for a tip for marshalling when reversing out.

Holiday Palace have confirmed a rate of 1200 Baht per night and they give back 500 baht in chips to use in the casino. Bit concerned about parking but seeing as a lot of casino customers are entering via Thailand I would be surprised if they didnt haven't have some sort of arrangement for this. If its unsuitable then will overnight Thai side of the border.

Parking is easy on the Thai side of the border -- just go straight for the parking lot. Nobody who is going to gamble or to stay in the casino hotels takes their car over the border. The visa costs $20USD and 1 photo. No need for tips or bribes.

On a side note: Somehow I seem to always lose at blackjack in Poipet, but in Vegas I do pretty well. 100B minimum hands.

BTW Star Vegas has a dim sum buffet open in the casino near the tables. It's all free, so well worth a stop in there.

Thanks for your comments. What's so bad about staying a night in Poipet? For sure you don't want to be roaming the streets but confined to the hotel bar / casino should be alright. Can't be any worse than Phnom Penh.

I've done some organised visa run's in the past and they are great you don't have to think, everything is done for you. Perhaps one of the visa run companies will arrange a visa run which includes an overnight stay...might be some takers there.

That makes sense, cheers. Lets hope I get a decent amount of beginners luck. Hopefully it's like playing pool the more I drink the better I get. Wonder how long my complementary 500 baht will last...

Get a cheap ticket with Air Asia, Tiger or Jet Star to Singapore, 3000-5000 return depending on when you book, leave at 7am return at 10pm, in between do some shopping and sight seeing in a hassle free environment, not a bad way of doing a visa run.

Hi you posted about doing a visa run to singapore & I was wondering if it is possiable to get the 60+30 I think it is, type B tourist visa there and do you know how much it costs (the fee for the visa) to do so? If it is cheap enough it sounds like a good alternitive to a Loas trip which will cost me "Non Immgrant O/B 8,000B+3photo" on Jack total golf international web site (only site I can find with a loas trip) and 3 days. Can I do this in Singapore in one day? I have 2 stamps in my passport and have stayed here for 70 days whilst looking for work so I definitly am on a budget. I have to do this by the 5th of april so any help you can give me is very much appreciated!

ps. I wrote you with this same message & just in case you don't see that I posted here.

Thanks!!!

A tourist visa is a tourist visa. It has no relationship to "O" or "B" or "non immigrant". For most people it allows a 60 day stay that can be extended for another 30 days. The cost is about 1,000 baht (in local currency) and the extension is 1,900 baht. This can easily be obtained in Singapore and most other Consulates (I would not try Rangoon or Phenom Penh however). You will need photos and copy of your passport photo page and fill out the local application form.
