So we arrived in Bangkok a few days ago and due to extortionate prices on alcohol in supermarkets etc we decided to try the local Sang Som for a wee cocktail in the evening.  We tried it straight and with Schweppes lime-soda that we found in Big C.  It’s not bad at all was the unanimous verdict.  Are we being complacent and there is a bad hangover to come? ????

Which mixers would you recommend with it?  Especially diet versions preferred ????

2 Ice cubes, Sang som \ coke 0 (No sugar. but be careful coke zero is the black one, not the coca light wich is absolutely a fool taste)  and a fresh half green lemon pressed inside

mix a little bit and enjoy

Soda or coke/Pepsi...would be the only time I wouldn't do coke zero..lots of ice..half and half...people who use a bottle cap as a measurer need reeducation, but they are here...

i maintain the use of the coke 0

you have absolutely the same taste as the coke classic

without the sugar and the cafein in excess

"Schweppes Manao" (bitter lemon-lime) also makes a nice mixer for Sang som.

Any mixed drinks normally made with cheap sweet rum can be OK made with Sang Som as well.

Highly recommend Pomelo juice - it completely takes the edge off the Sangsom and you can drink bucketloads of it. No hangover...

If you want sugar mix with EST Cola, EST is one one the best that I tasted so far for cola cocktails.

EST is the worst cola on the market -- it's way too sweet and artificial-tasting. Why do you like it? (legit question)

it is very subjective, I actually like the taste and sweetness of EST, and don't like Pepsi much ????

We need a poll for best Thai made Cola I guess.

Coca cola original and Coke zero have the same amount of caffeine (32mg). Diet Coke has more (42mg).

There is a caffeine free Diet Coke, but I've not seen it for sale in Thailand.

Thanks folks!  I’ll give the recommendations a bash but I’m thinking soda and fresh lime might be the way to go.  Not into sweet drinks and coke as a mixer always seems to give me a headache.  I’m pleasantly surprised by Sang Som...expected it to be rough but it’s not bad at all.

Mehkong was rough. Sang Som is vintage.
