Phnom Penh offers cheapest int’l school rates in Asian cities

Featured Replies

If you are Western expat looking to relocate your family to a place in Asia with good and inexpensive schools, Phnom in Cambodia could be the best option for you. A study released last week by the International Schools Database (ISB) found that international school fees are cheapest in Cambodia’s capital city among major cities in Asia.

ISB described itself as a guide for “local and expat parents to find the perfect international school for their children”. It says that its database allows parents to find, research and compare international schools in cities across four continents.

The study covered 19 cities across 13 countries in Asia. Included in the study were Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou (China), Seoul (South Korea), Singapore, Tokyo  and Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe (Japan), Hong Kong, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Yangon (Myanmar), Bangkok and Phuket (Thailand), Taipei (Taiwan), Jakarta (Indonesia), Manila (Philippines) and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).

In Phnom Penh, according to ISB, the lowest fee charged by international schools is $1,840 per year. The highest yearly school fee registered in Phnom Penh is $19, 941 per year. Phnom Penh is home to more than 50 international schools.

Well I know that the school my kid teaches at near Shanghai is like $35000 a year tuition. They board the students too. But you need to have a Masters Degree or Bachelors plus 2 years of Western Teaching to even apply to teach there.

Wonder what kind of teacher you get in a school that charges $2000 a year?

How's the health care there?

Don't make sense to pay money for a private school if you lose your kid from bad health care.

Bad investment. ✓

Even though standards might not be as good as other countries, you have to hand it to Cambodia for stepping up quickly in regards to something like this. Just 20 years ago Phnom Penh still looked like an apoloyptic city (which it was). Good on Cambodia.
