Some 19,680 cases were brought before the criminal, provincial and district courts for violation of the Road Traffic Act BE 2522 during the New Year holidays (December 27-31) and verdicts were issued in 19,379 cases, a 98.47 per cent adjudication record.

“The five provinces that had the most traffic violation cases were: Bangkok (896 cases), Nakhon Ratchasima (868), Chonburi (851), Chiang Mai (821) and Roi Et (647),” Courts of Justice spokesman Suriyan Hongwilai said on Wednesday (January 1).

“The three most reported offences were: drunk driving (18,314 cases), driving without a licence (2,947 cases) and driving while using narcotics (259).”

As for statistics of courts that had finished issuing verdicts in most cases, Chiang Mai district court topped the list with 731 cases, followed by Roi Et provincial court (647), Nonthaburi district court (498), Pattaya district court (498) and Ubon Ratchathani district court (483).

“The juvenile and family courts submitted 278 complaints that led to prosecution in road traffic cases,” he said. “Among these, 214 cases were of drunk driving, 54 were of driving while using narcotics, three were of driving without a licence, and one of negligent driving.”

Out of 278 underage offenders, 268 were male and 10 were female, Suriyan added.

Why not. All of these prosecution verdicts bring in fresh hot income for the New Year..

Thats 18,000 that snubbed little Mr P's request no drinking and driving. Not a good strategy back t the drawing board P.

I said long ago that the dui would be the biggest grandest money enriching scheme for the BIB.  Now it has come to fruition and all those who shouted "It's about safety" are the new village idiots.  So where are all the driving without helmets fines?  I guess they don't make enough money so have been shelved in favor of massive dui checkstops primarily in tourist areas.

18,000 that were actually caught and prosecuted.

There were probably around 10 - 20 Times that number who were driving, and were not caught, or had a large brown Envelope handy.

It's TAT counting.

I drove 2000 Km last few days. I saw a lot of "Check points" and all the drivers were stopped at each. But I never seen any control concerning alcohol.

other 1.53 pending 'monetary appeal' I guess

If they started locking up these people (drunk drivers)  in jail for a year you would see a change in behavior.

Also those stopped without a driver’s license should have their vehicles confiscated for a period of time.

Without serious penalties nothing will change.

The Fines and punishments were of course NOT reported on , which would  show how useless the courts are in making sure offenders do not re-offend

You mean 20,000 drivers lost their licence for a year (I don't think so) but should be

Difficult to lose what you didn't have in the first place.

And how many of those 21,520 "S*** for Brains selfish scumbags" completed their journey behind the wheel?

Tip of the iceberg. They are the ones that got caught.

The question is

what were the penalties!

Interestingly I came across the Interpol most wanted list a few days ago and the Red Bull heir ie the Boss wasnt on it. Clearly the posse are back at the ranch.

Thank you "The Nation" for answering my question I raised in a previous topic about road accident statistics

What concerns me is if 18,000 were caught how many were not?

He's history.... move on !

So how many of those caught DUI, that caused accidents are in prison ?,

that would be a good indication of how serious the Government are about

reducing deaths and injuries.

regards worgeordie

And yet the shameless lawless juvenile behavior runs rampant...

Pattaya district court (498)

Surprised at this number given Pattaya Plod were conspicuously absent during the 'dangerous' week.  They were back on the take yesterday with not one but TWO bandit points; the one on Rot Fai road causing a massive tailback and hopefully severely inconveniencing the convoys of Chinese visitors to the Floating Market.

For the FIRST time I escaped unscathed despite driving while in possession of a white face.
