Riding motorbike from Singapore to Vientienne..Is possible?

Featured Replies

A crazy friend of mine is in Australia and wants to know if he can ship a bike to Singapore and then ride it through Malaysia and Thailand and then into Lao.

He has searched for info and it sounds as though it is impossible, has anyone any experience or advice....

maybe go to hairybikers.com, and ask them how they do it?

People do it all the time so your friend should research more.

Of course it's possible. You can ride a bike all the way up to the U.K., if you want - provided you ship the bike from Thailand to India, thereby skipping Myanmar.

Read and or view (you tube): riding a Postie from Australia to the U.K.

Yes,   You can do it.   https://goo.gl/maps/gAjkMhKkkLsz6En46

here is the critical link to cross the chao phraya on Motorbike.

I'll post it up here in case some other poor <deleted> needs to cross the Chao Phraya in Bkk on a bike.

Oh nuts... Looks like that ferry crossing is history.    It might be a real trial getting through BKK Proper on 2 wheels.

It is probably like walking through death valley... It is possible,   but why?

Getting into Laos is now possible but not always easy. I think you need a certain sized bike. Its getting from Laos to Vietnam that is a problem, or Thailand to Burma.

Crossed on that ferry in a car a long time ago , before they invented bridges.

Most of the bridges are restricted,   no bikes or motorbikes.

Ah, such craziness.

Hans

their Tanks did too...

I get really skeptical when anyone suggests shipping a vehicle into Singapore, even a 2 wheeler.

Not saying it can't be done.  I've never tried.  But he may want to consider buying one there and sell it after he arrives at his destination.

Thanks to all who replied, some useful info gained which I will pass on. I think what he was looking for is the paperwork involved, insurance, registration , getting across borders etc. and the ease or difficulty getting these.

better get a carnet and ship into Malaysia, ride thru thailand, laos, Cambodia back to thailand, Malaysia and send it home

You need buy insurance ( easy and cheap) for Malaysia, thailand and Laos,  Not available for Cambodia.

Bike needs be in ur name, other than that no paperwork required other than ur Home drivers license.

All easily accomplished
