In my opinion they are covering up not the fact that they shot down a jet. They are covering up the fact they must have known it was a jet. A blip on the radar coming off the end of a runway ascending at around 300 miles at 8,000 feet. 

 

They knew it was a jet and to me at least that is pretty obvious. I can only think they were intending to target Americans and shot this down. They said in their own words they were targeting Americans. So I don't need to give any benefit of the doubt here.
