Thai Rath reported that a 13 hour standoff in Saraphi district of Chiang Mai was now over.

Kriangkrai Kanthatham, 49, can thank his wife for still being alive.

Earlier he had shot Suriyon Atmeuang at a house in Saraphi. Suriyon is the wealthy owner of an incense factory.

Kriangkrai escaped and holed up in his car repair yard as police surrounded him.

At one point the Saraphi station chief Pol Col Bancha Intha went to talk him round while standing next to a six wheel truck. Kriangkrai shot at him narrowly missing his head.

Pol Col Bancha rattled off a volley of shots in response.

Everything was quiet through the night until Kriangkrai's wife Yaowaret arrived at 3 am. They waited until daybreak then she was sent in to try and persuade her husband to give up.

He did just that and is now in custody.

Senior police had given orders that if the wife's appeal to her husband was unsuccessful "stringent measures" were to be used.

It was clear this meant that the suspect would have likely been shot dead, notes Thaivisa.
