rooster59
Thai bank fraudsters nabbed - but say Myanmar man was behind it all Deputy chief of the Immigration Bureau Pol Maj-Gen Itthiphol Itthisanronnachai announced the arrest of four Thais - two at least who are teenagers - who set up a call center posing as Government Savings Bank staff to defraud customers of over 1.2 million baht. The case came after 11 victims reported being defrauded of money between November 4th and December 28th last year. They were all customers of the GSB and had collectively lost 1,227,197 baht. The modus operandi of the fraudsters was to claim they were officials of the bank and that the customers accounts had been hacked and they needed to install a bank app called MYMO to help them. This involved getting all their bank details and One Time Passwords. Once convinced of the veracity of this the customers willingly complied. Their accounts were then systematically emptied using internet banking transactions. Arrested were Apidech and his 19 year old wife Suphatsara, Ayut aged 18, and Aphisit. Twenty one items including clothes, phones and sim cards were taken into evidence. The couple blamed a man from Myanmar who they said was called "Awoey" as being the mastermind behind the operation. All those arrested are now in the custody of the Sam Sen police in Bangkok.
