I've on defence projects. Deployment of new kit does not happen as you think it does.

The system recovered is a $2.5m 6 meter long Anduril Dive-LD. These were first deployed in April 2025, and the contractor is building a fleet of 200. The unique thing about these is they use a 3D printed hull.

Iran isn't obviously interested in copying an underwater drone used for mine clearing activities. They will learn much about how to detect these. They will learn about the mission length; how long these things can be deployed for. They might be able to figure out the software that allows autonomous operation (doubtful); if they do, that can be used to help improve their own autonomous vehicle programmes.

So the loss of a 12 month old weapon system is significant. It does not matter that the Navy is currently looking at an enlarged version.

Whats interesting is a version of these is available commercially. Iran no doubt has the means to obtain a commercial fully functional version from some place, and then can see how the Navalised version differs.
