Seven year old foreign boy attacked by dogs on Krabi beach - only then is there some action

It took yet another child to be attacked before the authorities in Thailand acted to clear a beach of stray dogs.

Following a savage attack on a five year old at Ao Nang early last year another boy - this time a seven year old out exercising with his dad - was hospitalised.

Charoensak Temchai, 41 - the manager of Pine Bungalow on Ao Siaw beach in Nong Thalee sub-district - said that a pack of 15-16 dogs inhabited the beach where there were lots of tourists.

He told Thai Rath that tourists had been bitten many times - but they were always adults. This time it was a child.

The boy had tagged along after his dad who was out jogging. The family includes two younger and older girls.

Seven year old Nolan A. was taken to Wattanaphaet hospital with multiple bite wounds, the most serious under his left armpit.

He was given multiple medications including anti-rabies shots. His holiday will now include a 4 or 5 day stay in a hospital bed.

Krabi governor Kittibadee Prawit went to visit him and his parents at the hospital armed with flowers and toys.

He ordered vets to go to the beach and tranquilize the dogs with darts.

Only three were shot and taken away for rabies analysis. The rest will be cleared up later.

= never

Years ago many sois in Bkk were infested with feral mongols roaming the streets, now, not so much and even no any, this unfortunate incident should mean immediate action on the parts of the relevant agencies, on top of making sure that the child will be taken good care of and compensated, but i will not hold my breath here...

This kind of pack of 16 should never have been allowed to form, especially in a tourist area.

About time they started using a "dog catcher" no collar and it's collected and held in a compound for period to be claimed/adopted if not then disposed of.

Introduce a dog licence fee to pay for it.

The inaction dealing with wild dogs is just symptomatic of Thailand's action dealing with many issues ! Just lip service until next time. I had my way of dealing with them when I lived in Ayutthaya ! Something added to some tasty meat morsel solved it!

I have said it many times

Thai authorities only act after they are forced to "after an event" you can apply that to pretty much everything - preventive does not exist here, everything they do is in reaction to an event that has already taken place which makes Thailand unsafe and dangerous

I'm suprised the locals haven't killed these dogs after that attack last year? Normally they don't wait for an order from the governor.

"feral mongols".

Really? That sounds a bit racist.

Buddhism sees all animals as sentient beings like humans.  Hence, dog jail is appropriate????

Yes. Ask the public to stay away for the hour it should take to shoot the vermin.

Great comment without thinking! You just won the pulitzer price! It goes unsaid that they catch them and do the shooting in another designated place for such activity.

Thanks but, very clearly, I don't need you to tell me whether my comment involved thinking or not!  Nothing goes unsaid when Thaivisa comments are made.

"pulitzer price".?

How much is that, then?

Usuall Thailand; always reactive and never proactive !

And still some good Samaritans feed these unwanted mutts. Nuts! Enabling them to survive and mate, creating even more strays... No, there are people who eat mutts, let the scrap feed some hungry...

I have some here also.

There are enough other religions in Thailand who would be willing to do the job properly.

And yet there is the French idiot, near Prakhon Chai, who is milking money from the net to fund a "wheelchair" for a mutt who got hit by car.

It's a good idea but no laws are enforced consistently or for a long enough period of time.

Also where does the money come from for the pound, the employees and the food?

They would quickly be used by Thais to drop off unwanted dogs, much like temples are.

I love dogs in general, had some most of my life but I do not like feral or roaming dogs. they do form packs which are 10x more aggressive at night, then they have more babies, chase motorbikes, cause accidents and attack/maim + sometimes kill people (mostly children)

I tried to get a dog here but where I live they have 6 packs of them every 50 meters or so (wish I was joking) and every single day they would come and terrorize my dog

one soi dog would see us, bark.. alerting the others then 5 seconds later 6-8 of them would just run full speed towards my dog and literally attempt to take bites out of him.

it was bad enough that I had to find someone to take him over as he was getting scared of going on the beach every day afterwards.

the above happened twice a day, every single day. keep walking? another group lived 100 meters further, rince repeat.

and by myself, I got bit by soi dogs at least 3 times in 6 years, probably came close to getting bitten another 25+ (because I walk a lot)

first time i near a corner, stepped up "quickly" on a 60cm high ledge to skip going around the whole corner, dog runs and bites me.. the "owner" - a homeless man laughs at me.

second time, about 2am.. walking to 7eleven, apparently woke up some dog that was sleeping on the way, he runs and bites my calf. (saw that same dog with a muzzle the next day)

third time, walking right in front of a police station white dog runs out of owners house full speed to me and bites me, two police there had a laugh.

it was great.

just last week, I went to 7eleven and wanted to put something in the bin (across the street) and some car was coming soonish so

i half ran for like 5 steps before 6 dogs decided that they were startled by this and that it was time for them to try to take me down. (very aggressive)

I agree with CharlieH about having dog catchers, no dog collar with proper tags? (that are sold/registered to pay for this) then they would be taken to a pound two weeks before being disposed of.

and fine the people who left their dogs roaming out with the tags on

we all know the people would just remove the collar/tags but that is why you microchip them too without telling them ????

A through road from Watboon to Chaiyapruk in Jomtien, approx 1km if that, counted 63 stray dogs. Its a serious matter now evwrywhere
