The Rajaprajanukron Foundation, under Royal Patronage, installed four air- purifiers on Friday (January 24) in the vincinites of Victory Monument in a trial of their effectiveness in filtering out PM2.5 dust particles, said Silpasuay Raweesaengsoon, permanent secretary of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), on Friday (January 24).

The machines can purify polluted air at the rate of two cubic metres per second. Placed in areas with heavy traffics, they help reduce the level of pollution caused by vehicle emissions.

The purifiers will be switched on daily from 5am to 12am, and 2pm to 8pm.

“If the air purifiers prove practical, they will be installed at bus stops, schools, and other busy places, ” the permanent secretary said.

When your at it, why not install aircons also to cool down the whole area. ????

  • Popular Post

I suppose they work - if you stand 30cm from the outlet on the first day they are installed. On the second day the filter will be full and nobody will maintain them. On the third day a farang will make a youtube video of the gadget being full of rats.

Idiots, absolute idiots and for that matter so are thai people for letting the government continue to slap their face whilst the government have a shopping spree with sugar money.

Absolutely disgraceful!!

This whole thing is just a distraction to hide their incompetence.

They know how to tackle the air polution problems, they just don't want to do it because it will cost them popularity, something they are currently lacking already.

Previously they were flying planes and spraying water to help with the PM2.5, is this an admission that it didn't help at all now?

What ever happened to the idea of having drones spray Bangkok with molasses? That plan seemed like a sure winner.

Turns out they couldn't burn the cane fields fast enough to produce enough molasses to be effective

Victory! Good job, boys and girls. ????

Whatever happened to the plan to put a glass dome over Bangkok ? Or at least important places where the policy makers sit

bringing water to the sea... cane burning, black exhaust cars & buses....

This is a bit like putting a small bandaid, on a huge cancerous tumor. Is this really the best you guys can do? Really? Is this all you got? If so, the people are really in trouble.

Im gobsmacked, just shake my head

Where will they burn the dirty filters?

Well, it would make a good photo prop: wear your PM2.5 face mask and hold up a Corona beer.  “Having a wonderful time—wish you were here”.

These have worked so well, they've not only brought down the pollution around Victory Monument, but throughout the whole city!

No need, they take them out and use compressed air to blow the particles out.

Just kidding, nobody is going to go so far as to check filters. Thais don't do maintenance.

They can bring down the pollution throughout greater Bangkok.

Lets do the Maths!

1 machine cleans 150000m3 per day

Price: 300000 Baht

Area greater Bangkok: approx. 1500 km2

Volume of air to be cleaned: 1000km3 (rough estimate)

1km3 equals 1 Billion m3

1000 km3 = 1 Trillion m3

divide the Trillion by 150000m3   and .....presto .....

6.6 Million of those oversized Dyson vacuumcleaners manage to clean Bangkok's air to the highest standards ........

at total cost of 2 Trillion Baht or a modest US$66 Billion.

Uuuups - almost forgot the maintenance, but it's not unreasonable to assume that a workforce of 100000 (give or take a few should be able  to do the job.

BTW - it's not yet April 1????

-----breaking news------breaking news-----breaking news---------breaking news-------breaking news---breaking news--------

Regular consumption of sticky mango rice will cure everything and immune to pollution in 7 days,  we vow.

bloody marvelous, i hope London follows this example and installs heaters in Hyde Park, a bit nippy this morning.

Bit like emptying 4 bottles of water on an Australian bush fire

That plan was scuttled when it turned out the heaters were made in Germany and after Brexit the tariffs make them too expensive

Public stunt slowly but surely vaporizing into thin PM 2.5 air

5am to 12am (Midnight) - why turn the on again from 2pm until 8pm when they are already on?

To whom it may concern 12 pm is noon 12 am is midnight!  There is much to be said for using the 24 hour clock!
