Extension of stay - changing from Income stream to money in the bank

Featured Replies

Anybody considering changing from monthly income stream to money in the bank when doing extensions of stay be wary of doing this. A friend used to use the certified letter from the US Embassy and switched to income stream for his 2019 extension when the letters were no longer an option. He has since put the 800k in the bank and it was there for 4 months prior to applying for this year's extension. When he arrived at Chiang Mai immigration they refused his extension as the 800k had not been in the bank account for the 3 months after his previous extension. The fact he did that extension using the income stream was irrelevant to the IO and the supervisor who was questioned about it. Now here's the catch. For the princely sum of 25000 baht they granted him his extension for the next 12 months. Corruption at it's best and a technicality that I'm sure has not been considered by those entertaining the thought of changing from income stream to money in the bank
