VOA Savannakhet Airport - Still available?

Featured Replies

I have just read a post that it is no longer possible to get a VOA from Savannakhet Airport. Last year it was no issue. Has anyone been through Savannakhet airport lately?

If no longer available can I get a visa online. I only have a couple of days I arrive in Thailand before heading to Savannakhet so won't make the Laos Embassy?

The Lao eVisa cannot be used to enter via Savannakhet airport (see https://laoevisa.gov.la/index).

The Lao visa on arrival, I believe is still currently available at Savannakhet airport. However, according to https://www.tourmag.com/Laos-fin-du-visa-a-l-arrivee-pour-certains-points-d-entree_a101660.html, from 31 March 2020, visa on arrival service there will cease.

Great information Tim. Thanks. I have contacted Laos Airways to confirm.

When you fly Lao Airways from Bangkok now you will enter Laos at Pakse and get the visa on arrival there when you transit through there on the way to Savannakhet.

You can use the Lao evisa there as well. https://laoevisa.gov.la/index

Thanks Joe, I was aware that we stop at Pakse and was thinking about getting the VOA there but was unsure of the time between landing and take off. I have been informed by my wife that last time it is almost 1hr which leaves plenty of time. My wife did call Lao Airways and they have said nothing has changed as yet at Savannakhet. I may just apply in Pakse to use up the 1hr wait and in-case Lao Airways are not correct.

Why will they cancel the VOA at Savannakhet anyway???

How is it that you can get one at Pakse???

I have flown to Savan for the last 2 years now as l can't stand travelling from CM on a bus, plus it's less dangerous too!!!!
