Popular Post narisarasgroove
We have a rice business in Bangkok and my wife has just told me that one of her customers who has a farang husband on a retirement visa told her that her husband (who I don't know by the way) recently renewed his extension and was told the 800,000 Baht in the bank requirement had now dropped to 450,000 Baht. I find that a bit hard to swallow and after a quick search here have found nothing. However! Sometimes strange things do happen in the land of smiles so I thought I would just post this info and see if anyone else has heard anything similar or is this just a fairytale. Looking forward to the guffaws and laughs but keeping my fingers crossed all the same. 1
ukrules
Are you sure they didn't change over to the marriage extension, that requires only 400k in the bank? You need to leave a minimum of 400k in the bank all year around for the retirement extension, that's reasonably new. As I said, this was from customer to wife so it is second hand to me but the way my wife explained it was that she had been told it was a new thing just recently and definitely no mention of a visa change to marriage. Her English is pretty good so I don't think anything was lost in translation.

Then 400K for the rest of the year for singles. Marriage 400K, don't know if that drops to less at some point.
Moonlover
I always take these 'friend of a friend' comments with a bit of a chuckle and forget attitude. In this case though, it could be that husband was using the combination method.
Matzzon
No changes. 400k for marriage extension and 800k for retirement.
elviajero
If all the paperwork is there to satisfy the extension as a spouse they’d only need 400k in the bank. It’s the better option if married to a Thai.
Jaxxper
Hmmm a mate of mine renewed his extension based on retirement last week at Jomtien, and no mention of a reduced amount required in the bank. On the other hand he just handed over his bank book and letter with 800 k in it so will be interesting to see.

There are no changes what so ever since March 1 2019 regarding the money in the bank method.

There has been no change, just hearsay with a few language barriers and misinterpretations.
narisarasgroove
Thanks for all the input and clarifications. As I originally said, I was very skeptical myself but was keeping my fingers crossed. Have to get my wife to ask the woman again and see what comes back.
