Myanmar border run and Covid status

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am on a 30 day visa exemption, and would like to head to northern Thailand.  Then make a border run to Mae Sot or Taichileik and come back and get another 30 day visa exemption.

Is Myanmar still offering the one day entry for US$10 which can be used for border runs?

Will I have any difficulty from Thai immigration re-entering to get another 30 day entry? (In recent years I have only been to Thailand for about 16 days in Sept. 2019)

I have not heard that Thailand is restricting entry from Myanmar at all due to Covid-19.  Has anyone heard anything different?

Thank you for your information!

No problem to get a 30 day visa exempt entry at a land border crossing unless you have already done 2 of them at one this year.

Still $10 or 500 baht for a Myanmar border pass. No restriction that I am aware of.

You could also apply for a 30 day extension of your visa exempt entry at a immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht.

Thank you very much Ubonjoe!  When you say "unless you have already done 2 of them at one this year.", I guess you mean two land border crossings.  Does it mean that coming in by air would be different?

Sounds like no problem, and the 30 day extension at immigration could be a backup.

Only visa exempt entries at land border crossing are limited to 2 per calendar year. By air there is no written limit.

would that be two runs within 365 days or within this calendar year? Is it guaranteed to not be let in a third time? I do not want to return home to a bad outbreak!

This calendar year.

Yes

You get a single entry tourist visa at a nearby embassy or consulate.

With the 30 day extension you can get almost 4 months of total stay from the 2 entries.
