Hi Robjg, I am in the same position as you and I am self-emploed back in the uk. However, apparently you cant claim tax relief for being married anymore, but you should be able to for your child. If you are legally married in thailand (amphur marriage certificate) you are legally married in england. I am just about to file my tax returns in the next few days, so I will get all the low down on it then, so when I find out more i will let you know on this thread..... cheers John
April 9, 200718 yr In Thailand you do get tax relief for being married as your joint salary and tax is calculated as a couple. Which is great because you can get a tax refund as I and the missus did this year. Back in the UK, you get nothing but you can claim for child credits or something similar if your family income is not at a certain level. In addition to that, you should be a little more astute in your tax planning and utilise your Thai wife in any way you can to offset you salary tax burden and any tax you will pay on savings etc... Basically put what you can in her name (savings), make her a 'partner' in your business for tax purposes and pay her a salary as part of that business and so forth to help reduce down your individual tax burden.
