The multiple problems saddling Thai Airways, including the impact of the Covid-19 virus, are getting urgent attention at the ministries of Finance and Transport and solutions are expected within two months, the permanent secretary at Finance said on Wednesday (March 25).

“Both ministries are urgently finding solutions to bring the situation back to normal as soon as possible,” said Prasong Poontaneat. “We affirm that there is absolutely no intention to close Thai Airways.”

Within two months, he said, measures will be announced to solve the national carrier’s liquidity problem, “such as by increasing capital or borrowing money, but we have to study this thoroughly first”.

“And we have to evaluate how long the Covid-19 situation could last.”

Sometimes a suffering patient should be allowed to die.

I do not agree.

Thai had a plan better than many other crippled airlines & this unfortunate situation

has hit them at a bad time. Some will die now.

How much do you think Dubai will bail out Emirites for,  just to ensure that on return to business they get "foreign receipts" as they have never made a profit either

Again?

Yet again?

Still? All the old new answers will be ditched than, such as stoping free rides for the government... Cant be doing with that, nossir, otherwise, what's the point of having a national carrier?

Gotta be some bunce for the people who manage the country - right? And what's the point of working all your life to become a general if you can't wet your beak from time to time? No harm in that surely? Seems only fair, donation money has to come from somewhere...

In this case, without dignity.

First move should be to hire a foreigner who has proper knowledge of the industry.

Second move is not to ignore what he says but to act upon it.

Neither will happen, and they'll bumble along as always to the next crisis and multiple committee meetings.

Quickly, quickly, shut the gate, the horse bolted years ago! ????

As an airline they're already losing approx 1 billion / month and now the added problem of this. It will be incredible if they can survive.

As I recall Thai cival servants in both Pattaya and Bangkok, dressed in period costumes, sang and posted on social media get well ballads to encourage the Chinese to overcome the Virus.........China owes Thailand several sympathy songs...I AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO CARES!!!

The cost to keep Qantas international fleet grounded is in the billions and they've axed 80% of their Domestic fleet, that will give U a ball park figure what Thai Int needs, there's 700 billion in the wings from the Government for restart up, after the virus departs, whenever that will be.
