Thoughts and questions about these embassy letters

Featured Replies

As the title says, i wonder how long the embassies will give these letters out for?

Is there a set time limit on when u have to use it by?

Can they be used more than once?

What happens in another month when people have used this letter to extend and still can get home?

Another email to the embassy?

Hope the p.m anounces something to help people stranded in Thailand tonight.

If we are lucky.

Perhaps they'll tactfully point out some common sence in the other direction.

OP, one post I read today is that if in future another extension was applied for then a NEW letter would be required.

The poster said that the io was very clear in that regard.

I don't know if you are talking about my post from a few pages before, but if not: I was told the same in Lamphun.

But this actually makes sense, or after getting the letter once you could stay in Thailand indefinitely.

I can just guess where they draw the line, but i suspect if the letter is older than one or two weeks they will not issue an extension based on it and tell you to get a new one.

For sure.

I don't know world cut off limits for lockdowns, closures etc is. Future will tell. At some point economics being able to function will take over health consideration and airports open up even if slowly is a given. Next one or 2 month maximum.

Just yesterday March, 25 I went to Im at Phuket Town to apply for a 30 day

extension due to Covid-19. I had all the forms completed already including an email letter from the US Embassy that I requested early Tuesday morning by email and received later Tuesday morning by email. Yes I was surprised too! Since this was the first 30 day extension request due to Covids, I was told the Embassy letter was not required and handed back to me. IO stated it would be required for the next 30 day extension due to Covids. I remember earlier reading somewhere this same message about it only be required for the second 30 day extension due to Covids.

Like other offices, it was a zoo so I arrived at 7:40 (hours 08:30-16:30). Of course it rained before so it became nice and humid and I was drenched by the time the  doors opened at 08:30. Evidently it is not only the Chinese that do not know how to queue as dozens of foreigners tired to cut in, mostly Euros and Russians. The handing out of queue numbers was chaotic. I had to physically prevent the cutters from jumping in. Anyway, all done and out by 10:00.

Btw, in reading many posts here, I find the guy who really understands all the nuances and interpretations is Ubonjoe. Listen to him if you want accurate information. Of course we all know that things vary by office and by officer!
