Covid-19: Residents fear illegal gambling den will spread the virus

Scared locals in Pathum Thani secretly filmed activity at an illegal gambling den in the province and took it to the media.

 

Punters were playing Hi-Lo, Pok Daeng cards and other gambling games as well as investing in the underground lottery.

 

Nobody dared go to the police because they claimed that the police themselves were providing protection. 

 

About thirty people in close proximity were gambling at any one time. Around 100 visited per day parking their vehicles outside. 

 

Many of the patrons were part of the boxing fraternity and there were fears this would lead to the spread of the Covid-19 virus. 

 

Boxing people had been visiting the den over the last three weeks since the now infamous outbreak at the Lumpinee Stadium where a large event attended by thousands was held on March 6th.

 

The den was operating in the Nong Seua district of Pathum Thani, just north of Bangkok. 

 

Sanook reported that it is run by the wealthy owner of a pork processing factory who uses someone's house in the vicinity.

 

Thaivisa notes that illegal gambling dens operate all over Thailand often with the connivance of the police. They are barely concealed and their locations are widely known.

Yup, these densare everywhere often in plain sight, every day,  often running 24/7. More contagious than Covid 19 itself. And yup the police are often paid off to turn a blind eye. And  funeral wakes round these parts nearly always involve 3 days of many hi lo mats on the go simultaneously.

Perfect for sharing Covid infection.

Have some sympathy for the police everyone! 

With so many legit places forced to close, police have few places left to extort!

Absolutely right, mate. What is the Thai world coming to when the BiBs and assorted little big men are expected to act like real humans. Shame on these people for exposing the den.

Thank God COVID-19 can't stick to dice or playing cards, or these folks might be at risk.

Our local illegal Casino run by Cambodians was finely closed down 26th Mar.

But Darts and Bridge are soon locked down ......
