A Bangkok MP has asked convenience stores to implement Covid-19 screening measures for customers due to the risk of infection.

Siripong Rasmi of Phalang Pracharat Party said on Wednesday (April 1) that he had received complaints from citizens in Nong Chok district about convenience stores being risk areas for spreading the virus.

“Convenience stores are at risk because they are air-conditioned places with no air flow,” he said.

“Therefore, I would like to ask convenience stores to set up temperature screening checkpoints at the entrance, arrange queues for customers, ensure the cashier maintains two metres distance from customers, and determine the number of people who can enter the store in each round, such as eight people per round for small stores and 12 people per round for large stores.”

He also advised convenience stores to provide hand sanitising gel to people before and after entering stores and to prohibit children under five from entering.

“The temperature of all staff must be measured before performing duties or every four hours, while convenience store operators must announce service hours to undergo cleaning operations,” he added.

“To prevent the spread of Covid-19 virus and overcome this crisis, every sector must cooperate and proceed as advised by the government.”
