Sweden, UNDP contribute toward a greener Cambodia

The Swedish government and United Nation Develo- pment Programme yesterday co-signed a new contribution agreement of $3.34 million to support Cambodia Climate Change Alliance’s Phase 3 initiative from 2020 to 2022.

 

The agreement is expected to provide crucial support for charting a growth path that is sustainable, resilient and benefits the most vulnerable in society, said the press release from UNDP and Swedish Embassy. It said the CCCA is a flagship climate change programme in Cambodia, implemented by UNDP and the National Council for Sustainable Development that has sought to respond to climate change challenges in Cambodia since 2009.

 

“CCCA supported the integration of adaptation and mitigation targets in the national strategic development plan, in budget policies and key sectorial progra- mmes,” it added. Swedish ambassador Bjorn Haggmark said climate change is an existential threat and requires speedy and ambitious measures.
