One teen killed, four injured in UXO explosions

Featured Replies

A boy was killed and four others sustained injuries when a UXO and a landmine exploded in two separate incidents in Battambang province’s Samlot district and Pursat province’s Veal Veng district. Samlot district police chief Lieutenant Colonel Kor Sunkaing told Khmer Times on Tuesday that, one of the villagers in Pursat province’s Phnom Kravanh district stepped on a landmine while he entering the forest in Samlot district’s Ta Tork commune to look for wild mushroom.

He said while they were looking for the mushrooms, Lux Lyne, 15, came across a B-40 rocket grenade, picked it up and smashed it against a tree. Lt Col Sunkaing said the explosion killed the boy on the spot and injured three others standing nearby.

The injured are Srey Pech, 16, with a facial injury; Pin Davuth, 16, with his right hand cut off and Ny Bunnat, 14, with a minor injury on the nose, he said. “The victims were taken to a hospital for medical treatment immediately after the incident,” he said.
