PM acts on overcoming drought

 

   

BANGKOK(NNT)-The Prime Minister has ordered the authorities to give aid to those suffering because of the drought, stressing the need to take a more proactive approach.

 

General Prayut Chan-o-cha, was told that the drought had occurred in many areas due to the late arrival of rain. The PM’s orders range from the digging of artesian wells, identifying more water sources, and establishing water provision points.

 

Nhong Kao village in Yanglad district of Kalasin province is one area where residents are suffering from a limited water supply both for domestic consumption and daily activities.

 

Groundwater Resources Regional Center 4 Khon Kaen is addressing the problem and has already dug more wells, while seeking long-term solutions. The PM stressed that the authorities must seek more proactive measures so that citizens suffer less from the ravages of annual drought.

If it had not been for the corona virus I think places like phuket would have already run out of water. The lack of tourists and the cancellation of Songkrahn saved them. But something definitely needs to be done to increase the water capacity in these cities. The population growth,the housing sector growth and the amount of new condos and hotels being built will definitely run those towns out of water in the future. But it’s common sense that an increase in the above without an increase in water catchment areas will sooner or later come back to bite you on the ass. 

Cheap  solution...boreholes.

A new truck is always a priority though.

There seems to be some debate the actual water capacity in existing dams cannot be reached due to lack of rainfall.....

So he has finally woke up???? measures should have been taken years ago.

Once again ordering measures taken, just to make it look like he is doing something, and actually cares.

'acts' is ironically an apt word, as it makes the word 'pantomime' spring to mind:

Esteemed leader: There is no drought.

Population: Oh yes there is!

Esteemed leader: Where is it boys and girls?

Population: It's behind you!

Esteemed leader: No, no, it can't be, I clearly gave all those ugly sisters two weeks to banish it!

 

Another 'order'. These droughts and floods happen each year and there has not been one plan issued by these guys about trying to fix them.

What happened to the old tried and true methods? What happened to prayers? What happened to songs? What happened to magic incantations? What happened to ordering the forces of nature to obey? Where’s that old ‘flash’? Where’s that old 'bang'? Now the people have been reduced to identifying water sources and ‘being proactive’?

 

Seems the big guy’s game may have lost a step or two.

Which is to repeat the same piecemeal actions every year since being PM. 

Not only is that not proactive but a sad failure to create a national strategy for a water management infrastructure that is science-based - whatever happened to the government's water management massive national data collection program that would herald new and more effective sustaining solutions?

Forget the pussy Acts and Orders, he needs to get serious and "URGE" them to do something about it!

Let me try to understand this: he is "acting" to "overcome" the drought...on the edge of the rainy- season...

Why not order your friend, Xi from CCP, to release more water for Mekong?  That would do far more good for Isaan and the northern provinces.

Yeah, 'act' right when the rainy season is about to start.

 

The real time to act was in 2019 when the reservoirs didn't fill up.

He also made a personal donation paid for out of his own pocket. What a great guy.

There is no attempt made to conserve water in Thailand. Double the price and launch an education campaign! Take the difficult decisions rather than courting poularity

Absolutely Phuket would have run out! The current population of Phuket must be down by 90% compared to recent years. Covid has saved Phuket from totally running out of water ironically and the water shortage issue has disappeared conveniently from the media and the agenda.

And now stand by for announcement of budgets and drain off from budgets and incomplete projects, failed projects etc., (a bit different but reminds me of Beach Road Pattaya projects).

I have a fool-proof anti drought tool. I washed and cleaned my wrap-around balcony windows, after a 6 week hiatus (currently sans maid), and the very next day there were thunderstorms and rain. Simples.
