nikster
Well Just received an Email from Acer Thailand ........Dear Sir, Thank you for your question, about upgrade ram model E500 has ram 4 sockets bus 400/533 ram type DDR2 max ram 4 GB. Mumbo Well - time to pick up the screwdriver and check if you have 2 or 4 sockets. Faster than any Google search. And more precise I found a website that claims that the ATI RS-400 chipset supports 4 GB of RAM: http://users.erols.com/chare/chipsets.htm On the other hand, if I were you I would set a budget, then take the PC to the next IT mall and have some store upgrade it for me while I watch them install the RAM. Then we'll see if there's 2 or 4 slots, which RAM we need, etc, and they can get it all done right there. 2x2GB Ram sticks will likely be pretty expensive. Looks like 1GB RAM still goes for BHT 4000+ in Thailand - more than 2x U.S. price. But if you have 4 slots, you could just add 2x1GB. or 1x1GB. or 2x512MB. Mumbo Jumbo
First Ben thanks but sorry you have lost me here ( computer Newbie ) I was jusst wondering about the conflicting info ....... From The Acer web site........ These are the specs > http://www.acer.co.th/product/aspire/E500/index.htm 2GB maximum RAM and can use DDR2-400 DDR2-533 DDR2-667 up to the maximum of 2GB and from the Acer Service Thailand...... about upgrade ram model E500 has ram 4 sockets bus 400/533 ram type DDR2 max ram 4 GB. so a bit confused about the two different items....? nikster ... ive had a look inside and there's only Two Slots both full with 512MB Ram's I live about 2 hours away from an Acer service center, so may be the best thing as you say would be to take the machine to them and seek their advice...? but its still a bit confusing with the two different views , as i now know that there's only Two slots does this confirm any thing....?
