Cambodia braces for the worst as arrivals rise on easing restrictions

Featured Replies

The country is bracing for the second phase of Covid-19 as the numbers creep up after a nearly 40-day hiatus. Beginning May 20, new cases made up of air travel arrivals from overseas pushed the toll up to 129 with no fatalities. Only three were hospitalised.

US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention Cambodia’s (US CDC) global health protection programme director Dr Michael Kinzer said: “It is a very small fraction so far, but we think this is typical of a second phase.

“It is what we were expecting from the second phase of the epidemic which is testing arriving passengers who are infected, controlling them, quarantining them, following their contacts, and making sure we stop transmissions.”

How are these people entering the country when no new VISAs are being sold?

Did they all pay the $3,000 deposit, buy the insurance and do the 14 days quarantine?

Lots of holes in this story, almost as if it's fake news.

Repatriating Cambodians. $3000 deposit waived

So the second wave the "expert" was expecting is from overseas. YCMIU.

It's all about trying to lay the blame on foreigners and leave the impression that these govts actually did something to stem the spread when they sat on their asses for months while Chinese poured across the borders spreading the virus.  With estimates of as high as 40 percent asymptomatic and with all these govts doing no testing they simply test the incoming and play the blame game.  Meanwhile the virus has spread throughout the population and most people will not have a problem.

The answer is simple.  Forget these fake measures and quarantines and open things up but at the same time isolate the sick and elderly and those who have actually tested positive.  Otherwise all this is a waste of time and will ruin lives while destroying the economy.

You can run, but you can't hide.

Absolutely correct.

Nothing remotely to do with foreigners.

These cases were almost all in Cambodians repatriating from abroad.

And since there is universal mandatory quarantine plus testing of all people entering from abroad, not a cause for worry nor should it be termed a "second wave". That term implies renewed community transmisison.

So why doesn't it say that in the OP

"Returning Cambodians ........ etc"
