Huge cache of military weapons seized near Myanmar border

Police have seized a large cache of war weapons, including 33 M16 and AK47 assault rifles, M79 grenade launchers and PK general-purpose machineguns, as well as a large amount of ammunition of different calibers, from a house in the Mae Sot district of Thailand’s western province of Tak, bordering Myanmar.

Two Thai men were also arrested, although no details were available about where they were apprehended.

Thailand’s national police chief, Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda, said today that he suspects the weapons were meant for use by ill-intentioned elements which, intelligence reports suggest, have been plotting to stir up political unrest.

" Either that or the local rice farmers have a serious rat problem!

What are the chances of that? When was the last time they found a load of weapons? Seems these ill-intentioned people are very patient. Get their weapons confiscated and they’re happy to just wait til the next batch are sent.

The weapons were intended for rebel factions in Myanmar.

Yes, more than likely, convenient to blame someone else though...

weapons have serial numbers

so did they trace who "lost" them

From Cambodia apparently, before that who knows.

Yeah ok !

Not really believable the Thais are not even protesting on the streets and its a big step from street protests to violent uprising. So I highly doubt this find has anything to do with politics.

Might be false flag, might be drug dealers or something like that.

Even if they have have serial numbers it maybe fake.  A lot of small arms and ammunition is made by people working from home,  or in small factories away from prying eyes.  Look up Darra Adam Khel Arms Market.

I told u ????

Recently read a good piece about the history of communist insurgency in Thailand, but that was long ago, and tho Thaksin is more recent he is gone too.

Ill intentioned? Depends on your perspective.....

Great timing, surely the people  will buy the text book 'found a bunch of weapon, must be political,  sorry folks we must keep on surpassing you,  it's for your own good' reasoning... *blinks*

Originally, I thought it was to rob 7-11s. That police chief is super smart!

Point the blame at unrest being planned in Thailand against the regime and then clamp down on the opposition and public's throat more. 1 step + 1 step = Cha Cha Cha

Good excuse to prolong the state of emergency then.

Why not read the article for some clues, that way you can eliminate Thailand from the equation completely.

That could very well be a possibility.

Article Quote:

Thailand’s national police chief, Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda, said today that he suspects the weapons were meant for use by ill-intentioned elements which, intelligence reports suggest, have been plotting to stir up political unrest.

He, however, declined to identify any specific political groups, saying that the matter is being investigated by authorities.

Previous reports of weapons seizures in Mae Sot, and other districts bordering Myanmar, indicate that most of the arms are actually smuggled from Cambodia by arms traffickers, for sale at huge profits to Burmese rebel groups based along the porous border between Thailand and Myanmar.

If you had read correctly it is inconclusive for how and where and what these arms were to be destined to be used for. You are assuming only they will go to Myanmar but in essence this can be turned around and manipulated to read anyway you like it by the you know who here.

They may well likely had been destined to create havoc with the Myanmar government, but again we do not know this and we really do not know where these arms came from. Just don't assume Cambodia. What the General di say was it is Political motivated.

Yeah but this one might be a jackal dressed as a mutt. Very critical times once again for Thailand.

Where - Ill-intentioned anti-military Government "elements" in Thailand or the illegal Shan State Army in Burma???

Shan State Army:-

Burma-Myanmar: Frequent clashes among Shan State Army-South (SSA-S ...

Interesting that while some small countries are trying to overthrow military dictatorships (e.g.  Burma, Venezuela, Yemen)  the big three are tightening the screws on their citizens.
