Deputy Prime Minister Jurin Laksanawisit said he had spoken to British Ambassador Brian John Davidson on Friday (June 26) on possible measures of boosting trade between the two countries.

He added that Thailand is also planning to enter negotiations with Britain on a free-trade agreement.

Jurin, who is also commerce minister, added that once the Covid-19 pandemic eases, he will lead a delegation of Thai private sector representatives to the UK for talks on trade and investment.

Meanwhile, deputy government spokesperson Ratchada Thanadirek said bilateral trade between Thailand and Britain is worth Bt220 billion.

Nice drainpipes and socks Brian, but where are the blue suede shoes?

An FTA that allows the importation of decent beer at a reasonable price point would be a good start! ????

Pity Brian did not ask questions about the derogatory comments and assumptions from certain government officials here directed towards resident UK and other foreign nationals regarding the Covid 19 pandemic here :whistling:

It's a real shame... most of the Thai side of the family who have tried actual beer, really like it.

Should be no agreements unless all the stupidly high Thai Tariffs are reduced or considerably lowered on British Goods.  It's time the Thai's stopped getting things their own way with their Exports while adding Punitive Tariffs to Imports !

Bellyaching on here will have little to no impact.  But if you perhaps write to our anazily dressed Ambassador, you might even get a job!

This is what the agreement is about, they're negotiating the tariffs each country will charge in different sectors of goods.

It's a two way agreement.

"The concept of free trade is the opposite of trade protectionism or economic isolationism" - I copied this line from investopedia.

Thailand is normally protective and over taxes everything both domestic and foreign.

Notice that dirty foreigner is wearing a mask and the Thai guy is not!!!

They should  raise the UK pension freeze and get a reciprocal agreement as with tax

Try boosting the £ or all Brian will end up with is a sack of rice????

Catch the shoes of the dude on the far left....

Unfortunately he would not - it's called "diplomacy" and he is the UK's leading diplomat in Thailand.

I see everyone in the photo is wearing a face-mask EXCEPT the Thai Deputy PM!!

Maybe the British ambassador could pay a visit to some supermarkets and ask why imported goods are so expensive, and what's the "luxury tax" all about !

I've written to previous Ambassador's over many things down the years but still waiting for an answer to the first time in 2006 !
