The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) will call bids for the extension of the Orange Line mass transit system next month and expects the contract signing to be completed within December.

The MRTA board meeting on Friday (June 26) gave the go-ahead to invite bids from private contractors from July 3-9. The documents will be sold from July 10-24 at Exhibition Room 1, MRTA Building 1, 9am to 3pm.

Interested contractors must submit their proposal within September, while the MRTA expects the contract signing for this public-private partnership project to be completed within December.

The Orange Line extension will stretch from Bang Khun Non to Minburi (Suwintawong) for a total distance of 35.9 kilometres. It consists of two parts: the eastern part starts from Thailand Cultural Centre and ends at Minburi, with a distance of 22.5km and 17 stations (10 underground and 7 aboveground), and the western part starts from Bang Khun Non and ends at Thailand Cultural Centre, with a distance of 13.4km and 11 underground stations.
