Thailand’s CCSA to consider sixth phase of lockdown easing this week

The CCSA will meet mid-week to consider a sixth phase of lockdown restriction easing, by allowing the entry of foreign migrant workers, from Thailand’s neighboring countries, to ease the labour shortage and enable economic rehabilitation, said CCSA spokesman Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin on Sunday.

Security agencies to monitor anti-government student activities

Thai security officers are keeping a close watch on the political activities of the Union of Thai Students, after the group held an anti-government protest at the Democracy Monument in Bangkok on Saturday, followed by similar protests in the northern province of Chiang Mai and in Ubon Ratchathani in the northeast on Sunday.

Govt continues to promote saving among the self-employed

BANGKOK (NNT) - During the COVID-19 situation, many people have to stop working and trading, and some people have become unemployed. This makes us realize that saving is important. The government has been trying to encourage Thai people, especially self-employed people, to save money through the National Savings Fund (NSF), which currently has more than 2.3 million members.

UK poised to suspend Hong Kong extradition treaty - British newspapers

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain will on Monday suspend its extradition treaty with Hong Kong in a further escalation of its dispute with China over the introduction of a security law in the former colony, British newspapers reported.

 

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, who on Sunday accused China of "gross" human rights violations, will announce the suspension of the treaty in parliament, the Times and Daily Telegraph newspapers said, citing sources.

Covid-19 to hit investment in research and development in 2020

The Covid-19 situation will cause investment in research and development in 2020 to dip from 1.45 per cent of gross domestic product to 1.09 per cent of GDP, the Office of National Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Policy Council reported.
