Here we go again.  Obviously they can't make up their mind.

BANGKOK — The tourism minister on Thursday said he wanted to renew a push for an agreement that would allow travel exchanges with countries where the coronavirus pandemic is under control.

Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakan said the so-called travel bubble agreement is back on the negotiating table after the government gave a greenlight for four groups of foreigners to enter the country. The agreement will play a vital role in rescuing the crippled tourism industry, which heavily relies on foreign tourists, he said.

What was that Llama in Dr Doolittle that didn't know if it was coming or going , pushmepullyou or something like that .. that's what these are .. a herd of pushmepullyou's ..

As long as they are imposing some of the ridiculous condition on entry that they are clanging on about there will be no return of mass tourism ..

Just a case of the right hand not knowing what the right hand is doing.

Is there anyone in charge at all in this country?

Quite so.

Taking a step back and trying to assimilate the arguments for and against both an open door policy to allow tourists back in, and a strictly regulated and applied system of tests, restricted flights, ASQ etc. that we have now (or something in between), I cannot see how a solution that is acceptable to everyone can be achieved.

On one hand you have the business owners who know that without the doors being flung open with no quarantine, many of them will go bust.  On the other hand you have the so-called 90% of Thais that don't want foreigners let in, period.  In the mix of all the various pros and cons of whichever side of the fence you may be on, there is one thing that to me doesn't make sense.  I may be wrong, but the number of confirmed cases and deaths seems unfeasibly low compared to many other countries.  This could be for a number of reasons such as deaths in the rural areas may be from the virus, but are never recorded as such as the deceased may have died from Covid-19, but as is the way, there is no autopsy and they are cremated along with any evidence of infection.  The point being that the government have a vested interest in keeping the stats to a minimum in order to create an impression that it's relatively safe for tourists to come to Thailand (which they seem to think will happen), yet they are putting obstacles in the way which will put people off until such time that easy access is allowed.  It just doesn't make sense. ????
