However the announcement only says it applies, "should passengers be diagnosed with COVID-19 during their travel."

That being the case, it doesn't sound like it would cover the costs of a mandatory quarantine such as is being enforced in Thailand (unless of course, the passenger does get infected with the virus).

Let's hope this is game changer for the airline industry. Kudos to Emirates!

Emirates Euro 100,000 coverage is in excess of the Thai US$ requirement. However Immigration rules are rather ambiguous and it is not clear whether you need a copy of the certificate to present to the local embassy prior to getting permission to return or when one gets to immigration in BKK, if the former committing too paying for a flight prior to getting permission could be fraught with problems.

Look forward to hearing from anyone who utilises this insurance coverage.

How do you prove you got infected on the flight? Incubation period? Your neg. test prior to boarding means nothing. Plus you need proof of insurance to get CoE.

It’s not entirely clear to me exactly HOW and under what circumstances this will work as I can't find it on Emirates own website and of course it does nothing to get over the Immigration  / Quarantine restrictions but it looks pretty damn good! And apparently, all the chauffeur-drive and SOME lounges  for Business Class are getting going again too.

Then again, if there's one airline I'd have almost bet on getting started with style it's Emirates!

So whenever Thailand decides to ease the other restrictions, I'm sorted for flights and insurance.

Just one or six other hurdles to jump ????????

which links to here:

for the UK version.

Thanks - they obviously updated it after I posted

Medical expenses up to EUR 150,000

One point to note The cover is valid for 31 days from the moment you take your first flight..........

Now....EUR 150,000 is well over USD 100,000 so I wonder if that itself would be enough for the Thai authorities?

I read a couple of days ago that Emirates will keep their fleet grounded longer than anticipated.

I think it's some aircraft, but they are one of the few airlines planning to continue using the A380

Btw, that site https://simpleflying.com/   is well worth following if you want to keep up with aviation-related issues

I have signed up to their daily email - so far just get that and no "spam" ????

Quite. This in fact is exactly what the authorities should be looking for, the risk is in the days following arrival and once you have been here for the 31 days, no different to the rest of the population.

The underlying question is of course will the current situation be used to widen the scope of insurance for visitors in general.
