Thailand urged to use US-China battle to its advantage

Deputy House Speaker, Suchart Tancharoen

Deputy House Speaker Suchart Tancharoen said that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s campaign against US-made products is a great opportunity for Thailand to accelerate the development of the electric vehicle (EV) industry so it can meet the needs of the Chinese market.

He said the Energy Regulatory Commission should support this industry especially since the automotive industry is shifting from internal combustion systems to full-fledged EV engines. He said he was personally ready to drive the strategy, be it in relation to revising relevant laws such as taxation or the disposal of old cars.

“Thailand should quickly issue laws to accommodate industry changes that help reduce pollution, especially PM2.5 particles in the air. Electric vehicles will play a key role in solving such problems. It will also help Thailand not lose the opportunity of entering the Chinese market,” Suchart added.

EV engines

First do not call and electric motor an engine.   Second, the Chinese are not going to let you in.  Third, China has 450 electric car companies.   Thailand will be buying from China.   Just ask Jack Ma.

Can Thailand do this without using tech from the U S .  Thailand is better standing on the sidelines.  The country is already almost a defacto province of China.  The world is turning against the C C P.  Countries might turn against China's allies soon also.

This country really is like a little children's one where most of the brightest minds routinely turn out ideas that a reasonably smart school kid in a developed country could come up with.

Country that can't build walkable pavements or put two pieces of pipe together without leaks will become a global player in domestic designed/made EVs?

So cute

Agree. The anti-western pro-china path is exactly what Thailand has been taking. Even the TM30 stuff is a copy of China policies.

But, now Thailand has been repaid for their love of the Chinese. In about 6 months, when still no tourists have come and their exports have continued to plummet, they will be in absolute pain.

They'll be begging Westerners for help. They have already started. And, let's make sure we make them lose maximum face for their nastiness.

Full EV cars will be beyond the pocket of most working class people... what are they going to buy?

And in 6 years after the car is produced the battery will likely be dead... who's going to replace a battery that costs more than the value of the car, price devaluation on EV's are a major turn-off in USA.

Cars around 6 years old are being scrapped when the battery dies.

Somewhat optimistic, China can easily and more cheaply supply itself. Thailand's role is to supply food and provide beaches and cute handicrafts for tourists. As to manufacturing its only role is to host industries too filthy to remain in China, and even then probably largely run by robots.

China wants Thailand as their colony.  And nothing else.  Forget it, loser.

And to provide pretty wives for the Chinese male imbalance.

given the well known outstanding strategic thinking of the government, this is sure to end very well.

my bet is that both the us and china end up ticked-off at thailand...

which of course, was totally unexpected

Mongols had colonies?  What school did you go to, and fail from?

I Am sure Laos, Myanmar and Thailand will all become autonomous regions under Chinese control eventually.  One only has to look at the past actions of China to gauge that.

Definition of engine

 (Entry 1 of 2)

1: a machine for converting any of various forms of energy into mechanical force and motion
Quote

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engine

An engine or motor is a machine designed to convert one form of energy into mechanical energy.[1][2] Heat engines, like the internal combustion engine, burn a fuel to create heat which is then used to do work. Electric motors convert electrical energy into mechanical motion, pneumatic motors use compressed air, and clockwork motors in wind-up toys use elastic energy.

So why should he not call an electric motor an engine? When both the dictionary and wikipedia define a electric motor as an engine?
It's not a combustion engine, but as far as I know noone is calling electric motor's combustion engines.

Jack Ma is nothing but a slimy communist with his head up XI's corn hole. If Thailand thinks they can control China as outsmart and trust XI or Jack Ma(h), then they have a big slap to the regime's face coming. .

It's a band-aide on a bullet wound.  EV looks clean.  And it's marketed to make consumers feel good about themselves.  But the process of creating EV and it's fuel (electricity) is just as polluting as fossil fuels.  Until fusion reactors come online commercially in the (distant) future EV is a zero-sum game from an environmental perspective.
But for those who are susceptible to propaganda, errr, marketing (most plebs) consumers will simply pat themselves on the back for being eco-friendly consumers.

He must have been drunk when he said this.

Good luck with that, I don't know of any country that has 'gotten over' on China. Those guys are sharp.

Wishful thinking, but I think China 'entering' Thighland (in an unpolite fashion - i.e. bent over) will be how it will roll.

They have been shafted through the ages. The current regime's conniving, xenophobic deceitfulness may appear to make them seem impenetrable, when in reality they are scared of their own shadow... i.e. their own people.
