Govt Increases Benefits for Domestic Tourism Stimulus Campaign

BANGKOK, Aug 28 (TNA) – The Cabinet has increased subsidy rate on accommodation and air tickets for travellers, registered with the tourism stimulus campaign “Rao Tiew Duay Kan” (We Travel Together).

The decision came ahead of the long holiday early next month to encourage Thai travellers to spend a longer period at farther destinations in the country.

The new privileges give tourists higher subsidy for hotel accommodation for up to 10 nights, up from five nights, approved earlier. The government will pay 40% of normal room rates, limited to 3,000 baht per night.

I think it is a good thing, but a little too late as we are leaving the teenagers home, thus saving on an additional room for 4 nights, Fri 4 - Mon 8 September, had they got their sh-t together sooner we would have booked another room, in hindsight they did us a favor, i.e. more money in our pockets and two less headaches ????

Why do these campaigns always have ridiculous names?

Domestic tourism is just shuffling money around within the country's borders. Big difference to international tourism which actually brings massive amounts of new foreign money into the country. It doesn't appear that they understand this.

Domestic tourists are a mirage. The old scheme was hardly used and this new version will be a dog as well. People simply do not have the time, the money or the inclination to take a holiday. The only way to reduce the devastation of the tourism plant is to inject large sums of money into preserving businesses until 2022 0r '23, by when there might be the semblance of in inbound tourism market.

"The government will pay 40% of normal room rates" We normally get 50% off normal room rated in peak season and 70% in off-peak.

The tax payer will pay 40% - NOT the Government !!! ... as long as there are any taxpayers left.

Thailand wants to be the first nation to build an economy based on making holidays.

In the old days, wealth was created from work ... now you create wealth by stealing the money from

hard working people and call it taxes so that others make holidays and as such create wealth for everybody.

What a fantastic idea. Somebody should have told our ancestors about it. They were stupid enough to think

they could create all the wealth we are destroying right now by simply lying on the beach !!!!

... how stupid they were back in the old days. [when ALL the wealth we have now was created with hard work !!!]

The financial hole they are digging just keeps getting deeper and deeper
