Ministry of Education to clamp down on lewd behavior during university freshmen initiation period

The Ministry of Education will be circulating letters to all universities urging them to clamp down on inappropriate behavior during freshmen initiation ceremonies.

The Deputy Minister of Education, Mr. Worakorn Samkosate (วรากรณ์ สามโกเศศ), revealed that within the end of next week, a ministry letter will be circulated to all tertiary education institutes informing them to take necessary precautions against inappropriate behavior that violated human rights or constituted sexual harassment during freshment initiation ceremonies.

The Deputy Minister of Education urged universities to develop constructive and creative activities for freshmen intitiation in tune to modern societal standards, with respect for human rights and social order.

Higher education institutes to monitor student orientation ceremonies more closely

The Deputy Minister of Education, Mr. Varakorn Samkoset, says the Ministry of Education has submitted letters to higher education institutes nationwide, asking them to keep a closer eye on the student orientation ceremonies.

Mr. Varakorn says the admission result will be revealed on May 15th, and the student orientation ceremonies will take place after the announcement. He says the Education Ministry has asked higher education institutes to prevent students from committing sexual harassments, violating personal rights, and performing violent and improper activities during the ceremonies.

Mr. Varakorn says the student orientation ceremonies should not offend others, and universities need to keep a close watch during the ceremonies.

Virtually every student initiation I've heard students admit to involves nudity, which I assume is improper under the "new traditional" Thai values, as opposed to the "old traditional" Thai values.
