The government will waive the fee for making a new identification card for people who have been affected by Covid-19 or natural disasters, the Royal Gazette announced on its website yesterday (September 15).

The announcement, which was signed by Interior Minister General Anupong Paochinda, stipulated that the ministry decided to waive the fee to help alleviate the financial burden of those affected by natural disasters in many parts of the country and Covid-19, which has wreaked economic havoc.

The areas and period of fee waving will be announced by the Department of Provincial Administration director-general.

As the fee is 20 Baht, might they also be paying for the cost of travel to the nearest amphur as well?

For people living, say, 50km away, that 100km round trip and will be well over the 20 Baht cost of the ID card.

Yeah, I also got baffled of the fantastic amount. On the other hand, you shall never underestimate the worth of 10 baht khao neo and 2 x 5 baht Moo ping.

In your Homecountry the ID is for free and they pay you the Cost for pick it up in the Office?????????????????????

This is hilarious.  Rather than be genuine and welcome stranded tourists and encourage Thais to make them feel at home, they ostracized them.  They want them to carry around foreign resident cards?  ????  It's like Germany in world war 2.  What's next, are you going to have a white arm band on your right arm?

This is like showing up to your daughters graduation just as she's walking up on the stage drunk, falling over on an old lady and puking on her granddaughter.

The Thais are as welcoming as... well, Thailand!

Pink ID too? I need to change my address, this massive saving could afford me half a Chang.

Again throwing pennies to the people.. The most baffling recent move by the govt was to give a 50% discount on traffic violations, like driving without a license and also failing to stop at a red light! If anything, people need things like lower utility costs, not nonsense like this!
