MPs want budget cut for Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment

 

   

BANGKOK(NNT) - On the third day of the second reading of the Budget Expenditure Bill for the next fiscal year, members of parliament (MPs) discussed the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment’s budget. They proposed that its budget should be reduced because of a number of issues, including water, wild elephants, land for people to make a living on and dust particles, have not been fully addressed, while also claiming that the functions of different agencies under the ministry are overlapping.

 

The Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment initially requested a budget of 11.53 billion baht. The committee vetting the annual budget expenditure resolved to cut the amount by 483 million baht.

 

MPs, who supported the budget cut, said the ministry’s agencies have been inefficient, and some of their functions are overlapping. They are not able to tackle several issues, such as particulate matter of 25 microns or less in diameter (PM2.5), conflicts between wild elephants and farmers, along with a shortage of land for people to use to make a living, forest trespassers and drought.

 

The legislators suggested that the ministry consider integrating the work of its agencies and cooperating with other units in order to solve problems in a sustainable way.

 

At the meeting, the Chief Government Whip, Wirat Ratanaset, urged the legislators to keep their speeches concise and relevant. The meeting is to be adjourned at 10 p.m. The Senate will look into their resolutions on September 21 and 22.

Or the agencies have syphoned off the budget to make it ineficient

Why is that so difficult to believe?  No mention of feeding the poor.

of course they have been, ineffective as well, but name me one ministry that isn't

So MPs want to cut the natural resources and environment, but not the wasteful spending on useless Chinese submarines.

Why?When it’s the poor that feed the rich,why would they give back what they have taken?You seem to have miss understood the purpose of the Thai government as an instrument for the people when it’s purpose is to take from the people.
