Post Viral Arthritis

Just been told that i have the above due to previously having the Chikungunya virus, anyone have experience of this, length of time etc.

How long ago did you have Chikigunya? As associated arthritis can be acute (occuring 3 months or less after infection) or chronic. Chronic form can last several years. Low dose steroids may be indicated then but not in acute phase.

 

Care by an experienced rhematologist is important.

Virus started on the 25th July with extreme joint pain but not lasting too long and was only tested for Denge at that time. Arithritis pain in joints started at the beginning of Sept and was recently tested for  Chikungunya virus ab IGG anti-bodies of which the level was 1:160.

Doctor has said there's not a lot can be done and just have to let it takes it's course, so are you suggesting Sheryl that i see a Rhematologist ?

You are still in the acute (though post-viremic) phase. At that stage, supportive care alone (e.g. paracetemol and NSAIDs) can suffice unless they are insuifficient to control symptoms at which poibnt you shopuld see a rehumatologist re possibel addition of a steroid.

 

If it continues beyond the 3 month mark then other meds would be indicated and should definitely see a rheumatologist.
