What would happen if Immigration can't process the appointments they have given out?

Featured Replies

This has just been reported - Immigration can't deal with their appointment commitments. Asking people to come back on Monday???
What do you think would happen? Would you even get a queue number if you have booked an afternoon time slot?
Reports please if you have first hand experience at an immigration office today.

Well, apparently the people who TOLD everybody to not wait for the last minute to get an extension were absolutely right. The Swiss Embassy - just one example - has warned in mails and on facebook for almost a month now and told people "we do not think there will be another amnesty, get your papers in order".

I can't get it, why so many people wrote "they have to give another amnesty" and now complain that the offices are overwhelmed? Jomtien just opened a temporary office ONLY to process extensions for people on a 30d tourist Visa...

Nobody has info about this?

Actually there has been several reports of people getting in and out fairly smoothly in 90 minutes of so at MTT in Bangkok, staff working through lunch break. I think it will be OK for tomorrow.

I wrote my trip report here:

In the worst case you could travel to another province and get the extension there. Chiang Mai looked quite normal today, could of course look different tomorrow or Friday.

I was under the belief you had to extend your visa at the Immigration office in the province in which you lived.

Spend a night in a hotel (make sure they do a TM30), then you are considered as "living" in the province.

That is only for those on long stay extensions or visas. It is not required for those on visa exempt or tourist visa entries which only requires a one night stay in a hotel for example in order to have a address in the province where you apply.

Why the hack all these people wait till the very last minute is beyond comprehension...
