Quarantine could come down to TEN days but not seven, says top doc

A leading adviser to the Thai health ministry has suggested that Thailand could work towards cutting the coronavirus quarantine time to ten days but no less.

Dr Thawee Chotphitayasunon's comments come just a day after tourism minister Pipat Ratchakitprkarn suggested quarantine for foreign tourists could be reduced to seven days by November.

Pipat is not a doctor, notes Thaivisa.

Dr Thawee said that some countries in Europe were contemplating a 10 day quarantine, a reduction from 14, based on evidence from ten months of studies of the pandemic.

In Asia Thailand as well as Singapore and South Korea were considering this.

He advised caution and further studies before making any decisions suggesting that the virus had a 7/8 day transmission average.

If Thailand could reduce quarantine period by the size of the "contribution"...they would.

Anutin is the Public Health Minister and was he not recently bestowed a lofty position with WHO for SE Asia? If WHO has a minimum standard for quarantine of 14 days, how on earth can Anutin as a WHO representative advocate 10 days... Another non-starter..

Doesn't matter .... 14 , 10 , 7 ,  2 .....  until a safe vaccine in produces and quarantine completely removed then and only then will tourists return,  and of coarse flights & border openings.  imo

...which will change **** all...

Even seven is too much. Test on departure and arrival, that's it. Otherwise only desperate ones will travel in.

5555 (HAHAHAHA)

They are so funny..."Phût mak!!" They speak too much, with always new proposals or ideas ...but do NOTHING !

No quarantine but a test before and a test at arrival, eventually followed by a 3rd test after 1 weeK. That should be ENOUGH !

Otherwise, tourism will NEVER RESUME , never come back until easy and affordable conditions would be taken with NO  QUARANTINE but eventually having to report on an application.

This is a wise advise.....

No worries .. with a load of chimps running the rest of the show Pipat's standing is a mere insignificance as they continue making it up as they go along ..

WHO has no standard with respect to duration of quarantine for travelers, saying only:

"If Member States choose to implement quarantine measures for travelers on arrival at their destination, they should do so based on a risk assessment and consideration of local circumstances"  (WHO. Considerations for quarantine of contacts of COVID-19 cases  Interim guidance 19 August 2020)

For contacts of known COVID cases they recommend 14 days. But as can be seen above they do not specifically recommend any quarantine period for travelers.

'with a load of chimps running the rest of the show'   Just give them typewriters and infinite time to produce the works of Shakespeare.

In the cases of local transmission last month (which seem to have been carefully brushed under the carpet), the CCSA said at the time that they can't be genuine cases of local transmission and the patients must have caught the virus while overseas, in spite of being negative after the usual 14 day quarantine period, and so a longer quarantine period of 21 or even 28 days might be needed in future. Now the medics are saying that 14 days might be more than is needed. The chopping and changing and indecision by these medical professionals would shame some of the politicians!

Ireland is already at 10 days Quarantine in your own home or the hotel you’ve booked into.
If Thailand had something similar, I’d go back and stay in the wife’s house in Mukdahan and maybe even get a Covid test before travelling,

but anything more than that is just to much hassle.

Tourist won't travel to any place while there is a quarantine in place.

Who the heck wants to be shut in their hotel for 2 weeks.

Just a reminder that "cases" are simply people testing positive for CV NOT necessarily sick people!  The vast majority are asymptomatic.

As such, the number of cases really doesn't matter - it's the number with symptoms and/or being treated that counts!

This is something that the governments around the world all seem to want to ignore.

In Germany, there is a mondatory quaratine at home, but only as long till you get a negative test result from a mandatory test, hence around 2 to 3 days, and this only when you arrive back from a country seen as a country of risk. No mandatory quarantine when arriving from other countries. 14 days quarantine only if tested positive.

Long time that they did not refer to evidence and studies from outside their horizon under a coconut husk. This is good news!

According to calculations by NASA, the chance that the Earth will be hit by an asteroid on November 2nd, 2020 is 0.042%. The chance of dying from Corvid-19 is 0.026%. I'm going to buy a helmet now.

Yes, but WHO doesn't mean quanrantine in stars hotel !

as it can take 2 to 14 days to display symptoms this is not good enough, c'mon Thailand don't bend now just because the rest of the world is going down the toilet..
